Severe Weather Alert: September 21, 2021
GLWA Chief Operating Officer, Wastewater Operating Services, Navid Mehram:
SEVERE WEATHER ALERT: GLWA is asking residents to be on high alert and prepared, especially those in low lying areas and those who have previously received flooding, that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is predicting showers through Thursday, with a chance of thunderstorms today and brief heavy rainfall. Please see their forecast here and the National Weather Service’s weather story outlook attached.
According to the NOAA, “potential for heavy rainfall Tuesday afternoon through Thursday. The potential exists for rainfall rates to exceed 1 inch per hour during this timeframe. Total rainfall of 2 to 4 inches will be possible by the end of the event Thursday. A Flash Flood Watch or Flood Watch may eventually be needed.”
The regional system is working as designed and is in dry weather conditions, and currently has capacity to handle the predicted rainfall. In anticipation of the severe weather, GLWA has staffed accordingly.
